Owner, My Best Guy
Kacy Boccumini is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and actor based in Los Angeles. He holds a BFA in Film and Digital Media from UC Santa Cruz, where he graduated with honors and received the Dean’s Award for his work on film noir. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Cinema Studies from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, now known as the Martin Scorsese School of Cinema Studies. His academic training grounds his work in a deep understanding of film history, storytelling craft, and the cultural forces that shape cinema.
With more than two decades of experience, Kacy has written, directed, and produced short films, music videos, visual poems, and comedy sketches through his company, My Best Guy Productions. His short film Last First Kiss premiered at LA Shorts, was nominated for Best Dramatic Short by New Filmmakers LA in 2025, and went on to win Best Short at the Paris International Film Festival. His comedy Gimme Some More has been praised for its sharp genre play and polished style. Many of his screenplays have also been recognized in national and international competitions, highlighting his skill as a storyteller across mediums. Beyond film, Kacy writes a growing Substack that blends personal essays, astrology, and cultural commentary, connecting with readers through a raw and authentic voice.
At the heart of Kacy’s work is a love of genre. He uses classic structures that helped define what we now know as screwball comedy, noir, thriller, and romance to tell stories that are authentic, specific, and intentional. His filmmaking is guided by the pillars of the Classic Hollywood Structure, which have endured for generations because they work. It has never been the structure that limited the stories we tell about our world, but rather the characters and worlds that were given focus. Kacy is committed to using that same beloved foundation to build new worlds for new stories and audiences.

"I don't think you can truly separate the art of filmmaking from the technology or theory. Light, sound and machines make the pictures move and speak. Art is what inspires the pictures. Theory is how we, as the artists and audience, understand and receive it. Filmmaking is the only true union of everything. The only Alchemy left in the world. It changes hearts, minds, economies, and the stories we tell. It changes everything. And thank goodness for that."
