Going back to one!

Hollywood's renaissance requires addressing its "old story."

The films of tomorrow will be an act of love.

François Truffaut, 1957

For the last century, film has perpetuated four harmful and specific falsehoods to further an agenda designed to separate people into categories rather than one human race. This agenda has cemented limitations into the very foundations of our culture. Restricting us in numerous ways, and in particular, the kinds of stories we can tell.

Some famous Classical Hollywood Cinema myths:

  • Men and women cannot be friends

  • "Champion" is a gendered term

  • Romantic love is the most important kind

  • Kids don’t know themselves

Movies reinforce and repeat these myths, but in our waking lives, we know the truth:

  • Friendship has no gender

  • Anyone can be a champion

  • Love, in all its forms, matters

  • Kids know far more about themselves than we give them credit

François Truffaut once said that great films create a perfect illusion. But at some point, the film must pierce that illusion and depict reality.

As artists, it’s our responsibility to use the tools of illusion to reflect our lived experiences. We are storytellers, not myth-makers. It is our duty now to (re)create the world as we know it to be. To tell the truth.

The best genres were born from limitation. Restriction breeds creative solutions. That's where we come in.

Back to One is an initiative that seeks funding for original stories, steeped in Classical Hollywood traditions, that use truth as their foundation. Help us correct the blueprint so future generations can tell their stories authentically... and honestly.

Help us break the mold of the stories we tell.
